Illinois resident Les Davenport has written magazine features on hunting, fishing, nature, and travel for 25 years.
As "Hunting Editor," he presently writes regularly for Deer & Deer Hunting magazine. Les has hunted and fished
on five continents and New Zealand. An avid archery hunter of 47 years, he took his best-ever trophy, a huge brown bear,
on Kodiak Island, Alaska, in October of 2008 - at 15 feet!
His passion for learning Native American history and the outdoor skills of Indians is as strong today as when Les was a
child building his own bows and arrows from trees of the Midwest: Osage, oak, and willow. He owns a large collection of
bows from across North America and from several other countries of the world. His wife Connie, also a hunter, has harvested
many trophy animals on four continents and New Zealand.
Davenport retired from Caterpillar Tractor Inc. in 1999 after 30 years of service. Most of those years were spent as processing
engineer in the planning division at East Peoria, Illinois. He and Connie now enjoy hunting whitetails and teaching their
grandchildren outdoor skills on their 200-acre farm in western Illinois.
